The Stadium Tour: Background

As I’ve mentioned before, Hubby, my youngest sister (Sis), and her husband (my BIL) began the official “Stadium Tour” in 2012. Hubby and I have been to stadiums on our own (like Dallas), and Sis and BIL have been to games on their own. We’ve also been to stadiums and matches together that are not officially part of the Stadium Tour, like taking our dad to a Chicago Fire game, or watching a US World Cup Qualifier at Mapfre Stadium (home of the Columbus Crew).

The official Stadium Tour includes both an MLS and MLB game at stadiums that none of us have been to previously. We’ve prioritized soccer-specific stadiums, unless we know that there isn’t going to be a soccer-specific stadium in the near future (e.g., Seattle). We’ve also jokingly added a “rule” that we can’t see “new” teams because no matter what city we go to, it seems like we keep seeing the same rotation of four teams on the field for both baseball and soccer (e.g., Philadelphia Union).

In addition to the official tour, Hubby and I have also seen:

*Atlanta Braves are opening a new stadium in 2017

Hubby and I have completed 70 percent of the Major League Ballparks, but we will probably re-do Atlanta because a) They now have an MLS team and b) The Braves are opening a new stadium. Truthfully, if A didn’t happen, we probably wouldn’t care about B. Major League Soccer keeps expanding (22 teams currently, 26 expected by 2020), so we have many years of the Stadium Tours ahead of us!
