Welcome home!

After three weeks in Italy, Hubby still had not been given an apartment, so when I arrived, my two suitcases and I moved into the studio hotel room with Hubby and his three suitcases (well, his two – one may have been mine). Thankfully, we only had to stay in the hotel for a week before we finally got to move in to our apartment.

Apartment hunting in Correggio was an adventure. Correggio is fairly small, so there aren’t a lot of apartment options anyway, but because we’re only going to be in town for a few months and needed a furnished apartment, options were extremely limited. Prior to my arrival, Peter looked at a fairly large apartment that looked pretty rundown from the pictures, a more modern apartment in the industrial part of Carpi (read: close to nothing), and a modern one bedroom plus loft near town. I only had the chance to see one apartment. It was a two-bedroom in the heart of the downtown area, which meant no parking. One of the bedrooms only had a twin bed, and since we already know we are having more than one visitor at once, we quickly eliminated that apartment. With the hotel walls closing in on us, we made a choice.

We chose the apartment on the top floor of a newer building. It has a HUGE terrace that overlooks the courtyard of our building. We’re getting a table and chairs for the terrace, and I’m pretty sure that is going to be my office as long as the weather holds out.
Terrace

Our kitchen/dining/living room combination! The fridge is big by Italy standards, but nothing else is.
Kitchen

The bedroom. It has a bed, a wardrobe, a couch, and three chairs… because two people need four places to sit obviously.
Bedroom

The loft. It’s actually pretty big (though the ceilings are low) and it has a skylight so it lets in a lot of natural light. It also has a covering for the skylight to block the light when we have guests. The downside is that the loft is open to both the kitchen and our bedroom, but the machinists from Hubby’s work are going to put up a temporary drywall barrier to our bedroom so that there will be a little more privacy for our guests.

Finally – the bathroom. We have a bidet! And while I know what it’s used for, I have no idea exactly how to use it. If I figure it out, I probably won’t share – TMI. We also have a washing machine – in the bathroom – but no dryer.

That’s what THIS is for!

Note to self – do not do laundry on days when it is humid or when rain is forecasted. The clothes will never dry! I may have already learned this lesson the hard way.

Benvenuti a casa!
